Hello Riverview High School Family,
Over the past 12 years Riverview High School transformed into one of the best High Schools in Florida under the leadership of Linda Nook. Linda had a knack of surrounding herself with an incredibly talented staff as well as a group of dedicated parent partners through the Riverview High Foundation. She was quoted once that the Foundation was her “secret weapon” in getting things accomplished that other schools could not. As an organization we are excited about being our new Principal Eric Jackson’s “secret weapon” and hope that you and your family might consider taking an active role.
The mission of the Riverview High School Foundation is “to provide financial support to students, staff and the school when there is no other resource”. The Board of Directors is comprised of 15 members consisting of student parents, staff, administration and volunteers. We have several funding sources including the sale of preferred student parking spaces, the sale of legacy bricks, graduation packages and an annual event called the Riverview Rendezvous. This year’s event is November 7th at the Francis on Palm Avenue in downtown Sarasota. The theme is National Lampoon’s Animal Houseand is sure to be a blast. Last year’s event sold out so get your tickets early by logging onto rhsfoundation.org.
Your RHS Foundation funds three specific initiatives:
R.E.A.C.H (Riverview's Effort to Assist Our Children at Home)
REACH was created to help RHS students who may fall short on their academic potential due to their basic needs not being met, including clothes, shoes, proper nutrition and funds for required school activities. The REACH program has a food pantry, clothes closet and a benevolent fund to help meet these deficiencies quickly, better ensuring academic success.
The Food Pantry and the Closet Clothes
The Food Pantry and Clothes Closet are stocked solely by donations. Students can access the food pantry on an as-needed basis for breakfast or lunch items as well as take home meals for evenings and weekends. The Clothes Closet is for students who need items. Throughout the year, you will hear messages asking for contributions of food/clothing. If you have items to contribute you should bring them to the front desk at Riverview High School.
R.A.M.P. (Riverview's Academic and Mentoring Program)
RAMp identifies incoming freshmen who are in need of academic assistance to assure that they can succeed at Riverview and graduate as productive citizens and succeed in life. It is critical that we meet this need to serve these students with an extra measure of help.
In addition to these initiatives the RHS Foundation administers several grants and scholarships to staff and students as well as assists with various initiatives throughout the school year.
The 2015-16 school year promises to another great year for Riverview High School under the new leadership of Principal Eric Jackson. Let’s all strive to be his “not so secret weapon” !
