 Message From The President

August 2013

Hello Riverview High School Family,

On behalf of the entire Riverview High School Foundation I would like to welcome you to the 2013-2014 school year.  I am confident that it will be another outstanding year at RHS!  The Foundation is excited to be a part of such a wonderful place.

The mission of the Riverview High School Foundation is quite simple:

To provide financial support to students, staff, and the school when there is no other resource.

This year the RHS Foundation is supporting three different programs:

R.E.A.C.H (Riverview's Effort to Assist Our Children at Home)

This program provides financial assistance to needy students in various ways. In the past, some of the support the Foundation has given has been to purchase school supplies, calculators, pay for SAT classes and tests, college application fees, as well as provide bus passes to students so that they can stay after school for tutoring. In addition to the financial support for this program the Foundation started two other signature programs at Riverview:

The Food Pantry and The Clothes Closet

The Food Pantry is stocked solely by donations and students are welcome to take home meals for evenings and weekends. Students can access the food pantry on an as-needed basis.  In addition to meal items, the pantry is stocked with various snacks to help a student get through the day.

The Clothes Closet is also filled with donations from the community and is kept organized by students of various clubs. Students who need items have a wide choice to choose from.  You will hear throughout the year, messages asking for contributions of clothing.  If you have items to contribute you should bring them to the front desk at Riverview High School. Be sure to let students know that they can contribute too.

R.A.M.P. (Riverview's Academic and Mentoring Program)

With increasing pressure and focus on student achievement, the Foundation has implemented a free math tutoring program for students.  Tutoring sessions are held two times a week and tutors include outstanding Math teachers as well as Math Honor Society students.  The Foundation funds this entire program including paying the teachers, providing snacks and giving bus passes to students who need them for their transportation home.  Our program has grown to serving over 40 students on a regular basis. The math tutoring program meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 in room 5-335. Tutoring is generally for Algebra 1, Geometry, and Math Studies students.

Grants and Scholarships

The RHS Foundation gives out several grants and scholarships throughout the school year to staff and students.  In fact, over the last 10 years the RHS Foundation has provided over $350,000 in grants and scholarships.  Recipients of RHS Foundation grants include athletics, the art department, AquaScience, chorus, Cyesis, Executive Interns, and engineering. The student scholarships have benefited over 40 different students and travel grants have benefited almost 50 different teachers.  The RHS Foundation also provided funding ($450,000) to restock the library as well as building & equipment costs necessary to complete our beautiful, state-of-the-art Planetarium.

I am excited to lead this outstanding board again this year and look forward to great things happening for our students and staff.  Please feel free to contact me or any of the board members if you have questions or would like more information on any of part of the RHS Foundation.

Have a wonderful school year,

Missy Cleary
