August 2012
Hello Riverview High
School Community,
For those
of you who don't know the purpose of the Foundation it is a not-for-profit 501(c)3
organization that's sole purpose is to provide financial support to the
students, staff, and school when there are no other resources
available.
In the past
10 years, the RHSF has provided over $300,000 in grants & scholarships to
RHS students and teachers.
$105,000 -
classroom grants
$90,000 -
teacher travel grants
$115,000 -
student scholarships
The RHSF
facilitated raising 100% of the funds needed to build the planetarium. We also played an intricate part in
helping to raise the necessary funds to build the Greenhouse /
"AquaDome".
Now that
RHS has the most beautiful school in the county and probably even the state, the
RHS Foundation has decided to turn our focus on our most valuable commodity - our
students and staff. In today's
economic situation many RHS families have been faced with very difficult
times. The Foundation recognizes
this and has started a program to assist our families called R.E.A.C.H. R.E.A.C.H. stands for Riverview's
Efforts to assist our Children at Home.
This program provides financial assistance to needy students in various
ways. In the past some of the
support the Foundation has given are to purchase school supplies, calculators,
pay for SAT classes
and tests, college application fees, and provide bus passes to students so that
they can stay after school for tutoring.
In addition to the financial support for this program the Foundation
started two other signature programs at Riverview. The first of these programs is our Food
Pantry. The Food Pantry is stocked
by donations and students can take home meals for evenings and weekends. The second program we have started on
campus is the Clothes Closet. Through donations and volunteer hours of various
clubs, we have a very organized and filled closet for students who are need of
items to come and choose from. You
will hear throughout the year, messages to contribute to these, or if you have
items to contribute you can bring them to the front desk at
Riverview
High
School.
The third
program the Foundation is focusing on this year is one that assists students
with their academics so that their achievement can improve. As many of you know, our students are
being expected to achieve at much higher levels than ever before. Some of our
students come to RHS already behind and need extra assistance to be
successful. We are fortunate to
have an outstanding staff here committed to making ALL children
succeed. The program we are
supporting is called R.A.M.P. which
stands for Riverview Academic Mentoring Program. This program provides tutoring and
mentoring to RHS students.
So now that
I have told you about what the foundation does, I want to tell you how you can
