The Mission of the Riverview High School Foundation is to provide funds for the enhancement of education when no other funding sources are available.  Foundation also administers various funds through awards and scholarships that are made available from many sources.  The Riverview Foundation is committed to recognizing outstanding student performance.

Grants:

Classroom/Academy Enhancement Grant Program

There is up to $20,000 allotted for the 2008-09 Classroom Grants.  This year the emphasis is on student achievement in reading, writing, math & science.  Collaborative efforts are highly encouraged but not mandatory.

 

Applicantions MUST be submitted electronically

by the deadline, 2:00 p.m. September 24, 2008.

General Grants

The Foundation acknowledges that there are times when requests are made for funds that are needed but do not fall into a specific category.  This application is for general use.

Teacher Travel Enrichment Program

This Grant is administered by the Riverview High School Foundation with regard to teacher travel funds provided by a private benefactor.  The program supports faculty travel for the purpose of enhancing their professional knowledge in the area they are presently teaching and broadening their life experiences. The application deadline is 2:00 p.m. February 18, 2009. Please note that all applicants MAY be required to make a personal presentation.

RHS Foundation CAREER Scholarship

This scholarship provides up to $1,000 toward career oriented education (i.e. SCTI or MJC) awarded to a RHS graduating senior.  The applicant should not be attending a college or university (except for "career based" commmunity college or vocational school), but must have a career goal (i.e. trade).

DEADLINE IS MARCH 25, 2009

Science Center (Planetarium) Grant

The RHS Foundation is committed to locating the funding sources to ensure that Riverview High School will have a state of the art Science Center.  This Center will benefit the entire Sarasota community not just the students of RHS. 

Pledges and contributions to the Foundation to date include:

$200,000 pledge from Roland Abraham

$201 received from the teachers of RHS

$250 received as a matching contribution from MEA Engineers, Inc.

Scholarships

Dr. Grim's Discovery Award

Riverview High School has an award in the name of Dr. Larry Grim.  One senior each year will be presented with a book/compass award at Senior Awards night and have his/her name placed on a plaque in the library. Application deadline is March 25 2009.

Dr. Patrick Rodi & Yvonne Vigue-Rodi Engineering Scholarship

The Dr. Patrick E. Rodi and Yvonne Vigue-Rodi Engineering Scholarship is designed to encourage Riverview High School graduating seniors to follow Dr. Rodi (a class of ’79 RHS alum) and his wife into engineering by supporting a student through a one-time cash award of $500.

The recipient shall be a graduating senior from Riverview High School who has declared either Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering as their major, and has accepted admission into one of the universities specified on the application.  Application deadline is March 25, 2009. 

Georgiades Family Scholarship

This $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a Riverview High School graduating senior every four years.  This applicant will have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and will be attending a college or university.  This is a renewable scholarship for $1,250 per year for four years providing the student maintains a 3.0 GPA while attending college.  Application deadline is March 25, 2009.  See application for specific dates of eligibility.

THE NEXT AWARD WILL BE 2012-13 UNLESS THE CURRENT RECIPIENT FAILS TO MEET THE CRITERIA.

Ronald Frymire Memorial Scholarship

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Riverview High School graduating senior who has a minimum 3.0 grade point average and will be attending a college or university to major in a field of science or education.  Application deadline is March 25, 2009.

Edward Brown Scholarship

This is a $1,000 renewable 4-year fellowship.  The applicant must be attending a four-year university or college, pursuing a teaching career.  A 3.0 or higher grade point average is also required for application and throughout the 4 years (annual transcripts must be submitted to the RHS Foundation). Application deadline is March 25, 2009.

THE NEXT AWARD WILL BE IN 2009-10 UNLESS THE CURRENT RECIPIENT FAILS TO MEET THE CRITERIA
